How much background do I need in my chosen course?

All of the Zoom Israel courses are designed for beginners or anyone with a little background looking to improve or refresh. As long as you have basic computer literacy and as long as you are an English-speaker, this program is designed for you.

Do I need to bring a computer or any other equipment?

With the exception of the photography course where participants are responsible for bringing their own digital SLR camera (camera requirements), all equipment and course material is already included in your Zoom Israel program fees.

Can I arrange for independent accommodations?

Although we do not recommend it, you can arrange for your own accommodations in Tel Aviv, and we will credit your program costs accordingly.

I’m going with a friend. Can I choose my roommates?

Absolutely! The standard program fees are based on double rooming with a single room supplement available extra.

I am not in the age range for the program, can I still apply?

The Zoom Israel program is designed for 21-30 year olds. Exceptions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Please note that MASA funding does not apply for participants younger than 18 or older than 30.

Is there academic credit or certification available?

The Zoom Israel courses are designed to give you a solid background in the subjects offered, and a portfolio, as well as a certificate from Camera Obscura.  The course will not transfer to degree-granting courses.

Is there a deposit for the apartments?

Each participant is responsible for paying a refundable deposit to cover apartment damage. The amount of the deposit depends on the number of people in the apartment. The deposit would only be withheld in the event of material damage to the apartment or in the event that the apartment is left in an unclean manner.

Can I opt out of official programming?

While some of the programming will be optional, most of it will be mandatory -- including the Ulpan Hebrew immersion classes. Participants are required to take part in all official programming and may be responsible for financial penalties if they do not participate according to the terms of the MASA funding agreement that every participant signs as part of the MASA funding application. Don't worry, the program already includes plenty of free time for you to explore Israel on your own.

Who can take part in this program?

The Zoom Israel program is open to English speakers who are age 21-30 and who are Jewish. The program is also open to participants from around the world. Additional MASA eligibility rules apply if you wish to receive MASA funding.

What's the religious background of the program?

Israel Pathways is open to Jewish people of all backgrounds. Our organization has no political or religious agenda whatsoever other than to foster a greater sense of Jewish identity (however one defines it). That being said, we want everyone to feel comfortable no matter what their Jewish observance level. Accordingly, all meals provided during the program are kosher, and the program does not entail any driving during Shabbat during Shabbat/weekend excursions.

Can I take part in Zoom Israel AND another Israel Pathways program?

Yes, although we do not offer it as a standard option, participants who want to participate in two separate Israel Pathways programs over a 10-month period will be accommodated, and the larger 10-month MASA grant will be applicable in this situation. Contact us for details.
